Your First GPS on the Road

So you finally made up your mind to buy a GPS navigator for yourself? But in the market you find so many options and you get a little confused. Which one to buy? TomTom or Garmin? What model should I go in for?

Whether you want to go in for a Garmin or a TomTom GPS, consider the following tips to help you shortlist and select the GPS device of your choice and needs.

Navigation is the basic functionality provided by all GPS devices. But there are some features you can look for when deciding to buy a GPS. GPS units are of basically two types, in car dedicated GPS and hand held ones. The dedicated car GPS devices have bigger easier to read touch screens with many models having voice guidance. On the other hand held ones have small screen and no voice guidance feature.

Among the models, TomTom GO Classic, 300, 500, 700 and the 900 series, all models of Garmin StreetPilot and Nuvi provide voice prompts for navigating and guidance while driving. Voice guidance is a feature worth having. Not only will your driving be distraction free, but you will also feel more relaxed while driving. Another advantage of having the voice guidance feature is that, you can change the default voices that come with your GPS unit with funny and alternative ones for a refreshingly different experience.

POI maps are another feature worth having in a GPS unit. They will alert you of incoming turns and also point out the nearest emergency services, gas stations, restaurants nearest to your location. Customizing and marking your own waypoints can be a good extension to this feature.

Consider GPS models that are easy to mount and stable when you drive. This will make it easy for you to un-mount a portable in car GPS device and take it along in case you leave your car in a public place or a parking lot to secure against theft. For other features you could look up are bluetooth capability, external amplified antenna if you often drive through an area with less sky view, memory expansion capability to add more maps.

Now you can go back to the market with a much shorter list of GPS models you want to buy. Before finalizing a GPS, road test different GPS units. Go for the GPS device that has an easy to use and read interface, provides a good balance between functionality and features, and the ability to quickly generate routes and provide guidance on your way.

Hand held GPS devices are not recommended for in car use. It can be less safe in using them as they can cause distraction and you won't find them easy to operate while driving.

How To Master The Art Of Public Speaking

Public speaking is an art of delivering a speech in front of an audience. Speaking in front of a group takes a lot of courage and preparation. You need skills to be a good public speaker. Below are 10 characteristics of a good public speaker.

1. Knowledge. It is important that you know what you are talking about. Read, read and read. Being a wide-reader is a great help because you have a better idea of the topic you need to discuss.

2. Preparation. Nothing can replace good planning and preparation. Analyze what you need for your speech, like visual aids. Review your speech. The more prepared you are in your speech, the more likely you will succeed in delivering it.

3. Message. Your message should suit your audience. Evaluate your message. Ask yourself these questions:

- Does it teach something new to your audience that they did not know before?
- Does it entertain your audience?
- Does it persuade your audience to practice what you have discussed?
- Does your speech share knowledge that can help people?

4. Language. Learn to use the appropriate words to suit your audience and occasion. Avoid using jargons. Use simple and understandable terms. Refrain from using uhm’s and ah’s. Using these words convey lack of confidence and knowledge of your subject. Instead, pause whenever you need to recall what you need to say.

5. Self-confidence. By no means should you let your audience doubt your ability. You can show your confidence by looking well prepared and delivering your speech well.

6. Enthusiasm. A good speaker can reach out to his audience and exhibit enthusiasm in his work no matter how he feels. He shows vitality in his topics, his choice of words and his gestures.

7. Listening skills. You also need to be a good listener in order to be an effective speaker. There are three type of listening according to their purpose:

- Emphatic listening - you provide emotional support to the person who is talking.
- Comprehensive listening - you gather information to form an accurate conclusion or idea. You focus on details and facts.
- Critical listening - this type of listening is most useful in decision making.

8. Sense of self. This pertains to how you perceive yourself. It is communicated to your audience as confidence, self-assurance and power.

9. Integrity. Your sense of self forms your integrity. People listen to you if you have respect and confidence in conveying your message.

10. Sincerity. A good speaker believes in what he is saying.

The ability to speak in public pays well in every part of your life, whether you are in a small group sharing opinions or delivering a speech in front of an organization.

The Best GPS System - How Do You Figure This Out?

Finding the best GPS system is like buying the perfect car. It's all relative -- to you! The perfect car for me would have to be able to survive two rowdy kids, a dog, sometimes two cats, and a wife who routinely picks up junk (Oh, excuse me, they're called collectibles) on the side of the road. It would have to be roomy and maintenance free. For someone else, the perfect car would only need two seats, a rag top, and be able to do 120 mph easily.

In order to find the best GPS system, you have to first understand what they generally do and what are the usual features, then define what you want it for.

By GPS systems, I'm specifically talking about the after-market car variety. You know, the kind you see perched on people's windshields at the grocery store. I'm not talking about the in dash kind that come with some cars, nor am I considering the hand-held varieties you would take on a long hike. The after-market systems are usually called portable GPS receivers, or systems, and that's what I'll call them here.

Basically, all of these portable GPS receivers do exactly the same thing. They show you where you are on an electronic map, and they tell you how to get where you want to go, be it down the street or somewhere across the country.

All GPS systems work off of the same network of satellites that ring the earth, and most of the portable ones even use the same types of receivers. So, the differences between makes and models are not in how they work or what they do, fundamentally, but in the bells and whistles that come with them.

Virtually all GPS systems come with the following:

  • Voice prompts that tell you where to turn
  • Touch screen
  • Large database of "Points of Interest" (locations of hospitals, ATMs, McDonalds, etc.)
  • Choice between 2D "map view" and 3D "bird's eye" views
  • Automatic route calculation
  • Choice between shortest and fastest routes
  • Come preloaded with maps of the 48 states

The main optional features to consider when buying a GPS system are these:

  • Does it actually say the names of the street you need to turn on as you approach it?
  • Do you need a widescreen version (4.3-inches diagonally as opposed to 3.5-inches)?
  • Do you need maps of Canada, Mexico, and/or Europe?
  • Does it support Bluetooth technology, which allows you to use your GPS system in conjunction with your cell phone to make hands-free calls? (Which essentially makes it a windshield mounted version of those little ear clips people walk around with.)
  • Can you enter multiple routes into the unit and have it calculate the best route to get to all of them? Say you were in an unfamiliar city and you wanted to go to the cleaners, the grocery store, the movies, and a local dentist all on one trip. Could the GPS system calculate the shortest possible route to get to all of these?
  • Does it have real-time traffic and weather report capability, and can it use that information to re-route you around traffic jams?
  • Can you use your device to listen to music (mp3) or to look at digital pictures?
  • How big is the Points of Interest database?

There are a few other features that major manufacturers include. Magellan, for instance, has hooked up with AAA to offer their Tourguide information actually on the GPS itself. Tom Tom has this neat feature where users can make map changes and upload those to Tom Tom's computer database which makes them available for everyone else. And Garmin is coming out with a new unit in 2008 that will learn to recognize your voice so you can enter commands by speaking instead of typing on the touch screen.

So, in order to find the best GPS device for you, you need to first decide which of these optional features are necessary, and which you might like if you can afford it.

You can get a basic GPS system for under $200. The Garmin nuvi 200, for example, has all of the basic features I listed above. It comes preloaded with regional maps (not the entire United States). If you want to spend slightly more, how about the Tom Tom One, 3rd edition, which at the time of these writing (early '08) costs slightly less than $200 at Amazon and comes with real time traffic capability and Tom Tom's MapShare (where you can uploaded changes).

Virtually all of the Magellan Maestro series is currently in the $200 to $400 range. You can get the more basic 3210 for around $250, which has millions of points of interest and, of course, the AAA Tourbook, or you can spend about $100 more and get the 4250, which includes all that the 3210 does and adds Bluetooth, voice recognition, and real-time traffic.

One of the most popular units is the Garmin nuvi 350, which does all the nuvi 200 does, but includes Garmin's "Travel Kit", mp3 capability, picture viewer, world travel clock, calendar, and more.

Deciding can be difficult, but to help out, I've created a website where I've collected all of this information plus links to appropriate pages on Amazon. There you can easily compare makes and models side by side and figure out which is the best GPS system for you. You can get to it from my link below.

Don't put off buying one, though! GPS systems are great. Once you have your first one, you'll wonder how in the world you got along without it.

Lee Cole is a GPS enthusiast who has spent countless hours learning about and using GPS devices. He runs an informative website calledhttp://www.hotgpsdeals.com There you can get more information to help you compare GPS systems.

Anywhere that you can get access to the internet becomes your office for the short period of time that you need to work to continue earning money online.

An internet cafe in San Diego, Oklahoma, New York, Paris, Katmandu or Cape Town can be your place of work for an hour or two. If you are taking a laptop with you then any wifi hotspot or other connection point to the internet can serve the same purpose. While you are traveling your online business will continue working for you 24/7.

Setting up an online business does not have to cost you a cent. You can operate as an affiliate of companies like Amazon, ClickBank and others and promote their products without any cash outlay.

The affiliate company holds the stock, handles the sale, collects the cash, ships the products and handles any other administration. You as an affiliate promote the product and collect the commission when a sale is complete.

Promotion of the products can also be done without costing you anything. The simplest and a very effective method is writing articles.

The more articles you write the more advertising space you are creating online. More advertising space becomes more sales.

Learning to write effective articles is not difficult either. Effective articles are like a conversation in which you are informing your reader about possibilities for their benefit.

You can also make use of free websites such as Squidoo to create web pages for the products you want to promote and sell. (Squidoo calls these page Lenses). The combination of web pages and articles becomes a very effective marketing strategy.

The beauty of this method of making money online is that you can do it while traveling.

Lets say that you are traveling by bus between two cities. You can use a notebook to write an article while you are traveling. When you reach a place at which you can access the internet you can then submit the articles you have written, check your sales and do any other administration you need to.

Your commission payments can be paid directly into your bank account. ClickBank for instance pays commissions every two weeks.

Traveling and making money online can be combined to give you the income you need and the adventure you desire!

The question is when do you want to start?

How to Choose the Best Lighting for Your Greenhouse

Choosing specific greenhouse lighting can be somewhat tricky. Here are five important factors to consider when making your selections.

1. Type of greenhouse — Before buying greenhouse lighting, you must understand the kind of greenhouse that you have. Is it a commercial greenhouse or a personal one? Knowing what type of greenhouse that you have will determine what kind of lighting to choose. For instance, if you have a commercial greenhouse, it is best that you buy lighting that is created to endure humid, adverse conditions that are commonly found in commercial conservatories. Research your options before making any purchase.

2. Length of use — The duration of light use in greenhouses based on a “photoperiod”— the period in which the light will be used may vary. For example, you may use lighting for a “12-hour photoperiod.” This means that within 24 hours cycle, lighting will be used for 12 hours and 12 hours with no light at all. It is important to buy a light that meets your specific usage needs. Find out what your needs are before making your selections.

3. Purpose — Buy a light that will focus on your desired results. For instance, if you want to motivate the growth of your orchids, it is best to buy a light that will put more weight on the “spectrum colors” like the red, blue and the “far-red wavelengths.” The colors of the light have notable effects on the plant growth. Not all light will produce the desired results. Talk to experts before purchasing.

4. Electrical efficiency — Opt for lighting products that provide optimum effect without having to compromise the amount of energy that they consume. It’s better to buy lights that are efficient and can still conserve as little energy as possible. Ensure that the lighting you buy meets your electrical efficiency requirements.

5. Heat — Remember that lighting should only be used where it is needed. A light that emits more heat as it releases light can be very harmful. Too much heat on a plant will trigger its death. For example, it’s not a good idea to buy an incandescent bulb because it gives out too much heat. Make sure you understand how much heat each lighting option produces before purchasing.

Lighting is an important factor in a plant’s development. Carefully consider the kinds of light you use in your greenhouse in order to ensure the quality of plant growth that you want to achieve.

Supporter of Gregory Reyes on his Court room Trial

I am writing in support of Greg Reyes to urge leniency in your sentencing. With all deference, he has suffered enough.

I am a corporate securities lawyer and have practiced law for 33 years since graduating from UCLA School of Law in 1974. I was (he first woman partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati where I worked for 21 years, leaving in 2001. (I am not writing this letter on behalf of Wilson Sonsini. I am writing on behalf of Greg.) I am presently Executive Vice President, International Strategy & General Counsel at Obopay, a start-up company in the Bay Area which provides a mobile payments service. I have worked in the Silicon Valley for all of my career. While at Wilson Sonsini, I represented many companies, from start-ups to Fortune 100, including Sun Microsystems, LSI Logic, Coherent, VA Linux and many others. I have worked with hundreds of CEOs and executives of all types.

I represented Greg's father for approximately 21 years and got to know Greg during that period. In approximately 1994 (I can't remember the exact dates), Greg asked me to represent Wireless Access of which he was CEO. I worked closely with him from approximately 1994 to 1996 or 1997 and would have continued to work with him when he joined Brocade had I not represented a competitor. Greg was a very talented and effective CEO and worked tirelessly to make the business successful. His team respected him and he was a good leader. He cared a lot about the people who worked for him and they knew it. He lived and breathed the business, consulted with his Board regularly and constructively. He frequently expressed his desire to do what was in the best interests of his employees and shareholders. During the time I worked with him, he always acted ethically; I never saw him cross the line. He listened to advice, engaged in discussion to understand the advice, but he always took the advice given.

While I represented Greg his children were born. There has never been a more loving and caring father. He was so proud of them. He has also always been devoted to Penny and despite these difficult last few years, has provided strength and support to his family. This experience has humbled him greatly and nearly broken his spirit I think he has made it through because his family, especially his children, needs him to be strong.

I would like to relate a story about Greg which I believe reflects accurately Greg's character. In 1995 my son, Connor, was in 5th grade and needed to do a school project m which he interviewed someone, wrote an essay and then gave a speech in class about what he had learned. Greg agreed to be the interviewee. He spent an entire afternoon with Connor teaching him about wireless paging technology, dug up information for Connor to help him with his report, had his executives describe the technology and gave Connor a pager to bring to class. During Connor's presentation Connor sent Greg a page and Greg paged him back. The class (and teacher) loved it The pager was a huge hit (remember that this was before cell phones were ubiquitous) The experience made a huge impression on Connor and for many years after that Connor told everyone that he wanted to be a CEO like Greg Reyes. This was one of those simple experiences where someone takes time to help a kid that changes the kid's life. I will always be grateful to Greg for taking time out of his busy schedule to help my 12 year old son. The truth is, I think Greg loved doing it. He loves kids and enjoys helping them.

I have known Greg well for many years. While the jury may have found him guilty, I believe Greg believed that he was acting in the best interests of the company He is hard driving CEO who wants to succeed but I can't believe that he would intentionally break the law. Greg has already been punished severely and he faces yet more legal difficulties. I urge you to be lenient.

Hearing Aids - 4 Tips On Choosing The Right One

When the symphony doesn't sound as sweet and the laughter of your grandchildren is slowly fading away, wearing a hearing aid is one of the best ways to improve your hearing ability. There are several factors to consider when buying a hearing aid, such as your budget, hearing aid style, technology, lifestyle concerns and hearing loss level.

Here are 4 tips on choosing the right hearing aid.

Hearing Aid Styles

The suitability of a hearing aid style is determined by the level of hearing loss, although most people with lifestyle and aesthetic concerns tend to select the style that they prefer.

An individual suffering from severe hearing loss will not benefit from a CIC model (Completely in the Canal), which is the smallest kind of hearing aid. This particular selection enhances the natural sound-collecting characteristics of the ear in minor hearing loss cases. CIC models are near invisible to the eye because they are placed far into the ear canal. CIC's are also custom-made and only work with users who have an ear canal large enough to handle this type of hearing aid insertion.

An ITC (In the Canal) model is slightly bigger than a CIC and is also placed far into the ear canal. With a somewhat larger battery, this style accommodates mild to moderate hearing loss. An ITE (In the Ear) option offers a wide range of uses that helps a variety of hearing loss levels. They are larger in size, but provide enhanced sound amplifiers, as well as additional features, including a telephone switch. Some patients feel that this type of hearing aid is easier to manage.

A BTE (Behind the Ear) showcases electronic features contained within a case positioned behind the ear. Tubes and other customized characteristics are utilized to drive sound to the ear canal. Usually presenting a sturdy body, this model is often selected for children with hearing problems. This type of hearing aid also provides increased amplification over smaller selections. To accommodate an array of lifestyle concerns, a BTE hearing aid may come in a variety of colors to match hair and skin tone.

Cost of Hearing Aids

Hearing aid prices depend on the style, features, accessories, warranty, telephone coils, advanced microphones, insurance coverage, and whether or not you need one or two hearing aids. Overall, a pair of hearing aids can cost between $500 and $6000.

Hearing Aid Technology

Basic analog technology provides the same amount of amplification regardless of sound changes. Most hearing aid users of the analog model complain that they often face periods of receiving too much sound or not enough. Basic analog hearing aids are the cheapest, making them a reasonable choice for someone on a budget.

Programmable analog technology offers amplification adjustments. Certain programmable analog hearing aids come with multiple settings. You can change the setting with a remote control or by pushing a button on the hearing aid according to your situation.

Over the years, the technology associated with hearing aids has come a long way. Digital technology utilizes computer chips to separate incoming sound into different bands and channels. Digital hearing aids highlight the most advanced technology that allows the most accurate prescription fittings.

Where to Buy

A patient may purchase a hearing aid directly through a hearing instrument manufacturer and hearing aid dispenser. Many companies now market their hearing devices on the Web, and often entice buyers with discounted prices. The internet also offers auction sites that provide fair hearing aid prices.

Careful comparison-shopping can help you find a hearing aid that meets your budget and hearing needs

How to find the perfect psychic reading

Now this statement is a bit of an oxymoron. A perfect psychic reading is not one that you hear everything you ever dreamed of hearing. A perfect one is a reading that you are told everything you need to know that will affect your life good or bad. Psychics on the World Wide Web are a dime a dozen, but the good ones are like gems in a mine. Just like psychic reading sites themselves. They can be found in the millions on the internet but that does not mean they are all reputable. You have to look hard to find one that is the right one for you. A good psychic will tell you your future with the up most honesty, at the same time as council you on the path you are on. Sugar coating is good in a dessert but definitely not in a psychic reading.

The first thing you need to look for is the reader’s feedback and profile. This will let you know exactly what other clients have expressed as to their happiness or dissatisfaction of their reading itself. You will gain the first hand knowledge of what to expect or not to expect. Are the comments negative? Then move to the next. Do you have a good feeling about this particular reader? Then by all means feel comfortable. The readers profile will help you gain a feeling using your intuition as to what level of trust you can get from the reader itself. You will learn how they are qualified to do psychic readings and their modes of divination like runes, tarot cards, or pendulums. You will also learn what their abilities are like clairvoyant (power to see), clairaudient (the power to hear), and empathic (the power to feel emotions) just to name a few.

Some sites have the ability to try out their services first before you purchase a private reading. Allot of sites today have specials where you can either chat with a psychic in a chat room environment, receive time free before you commit to call, or have a special for first time buyers. It is recommended that you try to see if the psychic can connect with you first before you make that first purchase. Sites that do not offer you a chance to connect or receive a cheaply priced private reading for first time clients should be avoided.

The psychic website that you go to should be viewed with a keen eye. Go into the chat room if they have one and see what other clients think in real time. Talk to them and get a vibe of how the site is and what to expect. If they have live readers in the chat room then build a rapport with them. Get to know them as individuals and treat them as such, since they are human just like you.

Whichever website you choose for your psychic readings I hope that you will go away with the answers to the questions you seek. When you find the right site you will know in your heart by the vibe you get. Psychics these days cost less than councilors, and do twice the work.

Creating Bulk Email List & Building Strong Relationship With It

Creating Bulk Email List

By means of the Internet we have the possibility to connect millions of people from around the world. And this number is growing as far as people discover the convenience and necessity of the Internet in today’s world, where the success in the business largely depends on information technology.

Companies and organizations have found the Internet an opportune place to promote their products and services. They use the strategy known as bulk email marketing, or bulk email sending, or sending advertisements and promotional letters to email users.

An essential element of successful bulk email marketing strategies is a clean list of targeted email addresses. This assumes that the list contains only valid email addresses of people who are really interested in receiving the emails from the company or organization. Otherwise, your unsolicited advertising will be classified as spam mail. Although sending out magazines and newsletters through bulk emailing is free, companies cannot risk the equity of their brands by offending people. A clean email list will help you assess the success of your email campaigns; and more importantly it will reduce the risk of breaking the anti-spamming laws.

So, how to build a clean targeted email list? There are a few "DON'T" here:

• don't generate email addresses using special tools you may find on the Internet;

• don't harvest the email addresses from web sites;

• don't purchase a ready made list. Such lists usually come from email service providers and agencies that conduct surveys.

Ready made lists that you will probably purchase are never validated and are full of “dead” and undeliverable email addresses. Plus, those lists are sold and re-sold many times and the email addresses' owners are already fed up with emails from other email marketers and I have a great doubt that they will open and read your message since they receive hundreds emails every day. The email addresses that you will harvest from web sites belong to people who did not hear about you and will hardly want to receive your emails. As a return you will receive a lot of complaints from people for sending them unsolicited emails, and ban of your email account.

There is a different way to build your clean targeted email list - subscription form on your web site. Before you start with bulk email marketing, get your web site up and running. Or, probably you already have a site where you advertise your products and services. Setup a subscription form somewhere on your web page and get others to sign up for your mailing lists with their consent. Spread the word about your mailing list through word of mouth. The beauty in this is that the list of emails will be self-screened and the database will only contain the people who are interested in your offers. Make sure you have their consent beforehand. It’s not as quick and easy as generating or harvesting email addresses but it’s more reliable way. You won’t send unsolicited emails as you have a proof that the recipient has subscribed himself to your mailing list.

Building Relationship with Your List

When you have an email list of subscribers who have specifically agreed that you send emails to them, you have an asset that can be leveraged over and over again. You can use that email list to drive traffic to different websites and sales pages again and again and this is why you must cherish your list like an apple of your eye. The better you treat your list, the better the return will be when you want it.

To have a very profitable email list, you should simply build a relationship with your subscribers. You want them to like you, feel like they know you, feel comfortable buying from you and most importantly you want them to look forward to and enjoy reading your emails. If you can build a strong relationship with your subscribers, then you have more chances of getting them to purchase your products and services.

Here are a few tips how you can build a relationship with your email list:

1. Send emails regularly. Make sure you are reaching your subscribers at least once a month in emails or other medium. If you emailed to a list of people and had little or no response does not necessarily mean your audience isn't interested in your product. Experiment with different emails, get to know which email strategy works best, and keep using it to reach your subscribers.

2. Send useful information and tips. Your emails should contain something that the customer wants. It shouldn't be just the information about your company or yourself. Focus on giving more than just what you sell. Specific content, messages, and other targeted information that interests your customers are good to include. This is a great way to make readers look forward to your emails as they will know that they are going to receive great information from you. Provide value in your emails and don't try to profit in some way form every one of them.

3. Send the videos of you and talk to your subscribers about things they want to know about. Videos are usually better than regular emails because they are more personal and show there is a real person giving the information.

4. Make sure your subscribers can read your emails. Although the videos, graphics, flash animations, and logos look impressive on an email, they are often blocked by email filters. Upload video, graphics, and flash files to your site and use a flat text with hyperlinks to the site. Once your recipients get to your site, you can show them as many graphics as you want.

5. Create a way for your subscribers to interact with you. This can be a forum, a comment system, an email submission area, a live chat room and many others.

Note that not every email you send has to have some way of profiting in it; just make sure the readers enjoy it, make sure they like you and they like your emails. Make your readers to feel as though they can trust you and everything you say in your emails.
